A Good Introductory Book

This is a good introductory book written at the undergraduate level. A lot of the material at the beginning is the same as found in many other signal processing books, like the Fourier Transform and its properties, extended to two dimensions. I would have liked to see some concrete examples of transforms and convolutions when the subjects are introduced, rather than the usual stock pules responses. Other than that, the book helped me out.

Very useful in daily practice

I am a Primary Care Physician with a special interest in Dermatology. I got this book during a medical conference (Pri-Med in Boston).
In reviewing this book, I found it is really helful in my practice because every procedure is very well explained. For example, it has tables for recommended doses of steroid injections, as well as guidence in the type of equipment needed for every procedure. The pictures are excellent. The book has a DVD if you need more details about a particular topic and it has a link to access online. The authors give advice for coding and billing, which keep non-profit organizations in business. I love this book. I use it every day in my practice and recommend it to any practicioner wanting to improve their skills in dealing with dermatological procedures.

All you need to perform a full range of Dermatologic Procedures in the Office

I have been planning to greatly increase the breath of office dermatologic procedures I can offer to my patients for some time, and this book has been critical to the success of this effort. Everything I needed for setting up my office for performing a great variety of skin procedures are fully covered in this book.

Most importantly, this book is detailed and practical.

It begins by reviewing the basic equipment and supplies needed to set up the procedure room.
Next, the text reviews the various anesthesia procedures used for the various skin surgeries. Again, the description and the photos are detailed enough for me to be able to perform these procedures in the office.

There is much practical detail on areas that are usually not addressed well in primary care procedure books: hemostasis, suturing technique and suture selection.

After introducing the equipment and techniques needed for the procedures, the book then covers all of the procedures done in a primary care office: laceration repair, skin biopsies, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, and removal of common lesions (such as lipomas and epidermal inclusion cysts).

In addition to the more basic techniques, there is detailed description, diagrams and photos of more complex techniques. There is sufficient detail presented to address some lesions requiring a more complex repair.

Also, there is extensive coverage of treatment of benign "cosmetic" lesions, such as skin tags and dermatofibromas. For those who want to introduce cosmetically enhancing dermatology procedures, there is ample detail on performing chemical peels, using dermal fillers and Botox and the use of lasers for cosmetic procedures.

The book alone is the very best on this subject for the practicing physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. However, there is also a phenomenal DVD that accompanies the book.

DVD alone is incredible -- like having a great workshop review whenever you want.

Great for showing anesthesia methods for common office skin procedures.

In addition, it reviews all the common office biopsy and excision procedures in practical detail.
It also has some very informative demonstrations for some common office procedures, such as cryosurgery with methods presented that will improve outcome and minimize patient discomfort.

For those that are interested, there are great video clips demonstrating the cosmetic procedures, such as Botox and dermal filler treatments.

In addition:
The whole text and all the videos can also be purchased for your iPhone and iPad by going to iTunes.
This makes the whole package completely portable and easy to use in the office

In summary: this is all you need to introduce or enhance the performance of dermatologic procedures in your office practice.

Initial 'version' of this book - "Skin Surgery, A Practical Guide" was invaluable to me in developing insight into primary care skin procedures. Now the new evolution- "Dermatologic and Cosmetic Procedure in Office Practice" is my favorite reference and field guide in the procedure room.
Tables on characteristics of sutures and steroid strengths, and figures of skin tension lines and at-risk anatomic areas are few of many useful tables and figures I frequently use as snap shot references. With the Ipad application of the same book, I enjoy watching the video clips on the go- an excellent audio-visual experience that helped refine my surgical skills and advance my practice to a whole new level.
From 'Getting Started' to 'Putting it All Together', this book/ mobile application has all the crucial information needed to start, thrive and excel in providing much needed office-based procedural care services. With excellent quality pictures and videos, it is a complete self-learning tool and invaluable resource for every learner, educator and practitioner of primary or specialty care.

I personally found a lot of helpful information in this book, first for the growing global mobility community and also for all who are involved in international assignments. For me this book is very empathetic and sensitive to the needs of all the people involved in a global transition. Although the book is quite compact (with its 93 pages) it contains a lot of helpful tables, templates, checklists, graphs, and statistical information. If you're interested or involved in Global Mobility this book is a "must have" for you.

In Lovemarks, advertising giant Saatchi & Saatchi CEO Kevin Roberts delves deep into what mysteries lie behind the long-term success and unwavering customer loyalty for a can of Coke or a pair of Levi's, ultimately concluding that Love is the answer, and without some emotional connection to a product, it will dry up like a generic raisin in the sun. Enter Lovemarks, the new marketing buzzword, which will likely be bandied about at board meetings as vigorously as The Tipping Point.

But before Roberts can get to what in fact a Lovemark means in the worlds of advertising and marketing, he takes us on a virtual tour of his CV. There was his first post at Mary Quant in London, then the gig as New Products Manager of Gillette International in the Middle East, on to CEO of Pepsi in Canada, and later the same role at Lion Nathan in New Zealand. The list goes on, and so does Roberts--on and on--about his achievements and experience building brand awareness and shaking things up (he famously machine-gunned a vending machine at a presentation for a spot on the evening news). More importantly, he succeeds at blasting away the smoke and mirrors that might prevent a creative genius (or an ordinary consumer) from seeing what makes Superman the most beloved super-hero of all time.

Despite the somewhat egocentric approach to taking us there (he is, after-all, a pretty smart guy), we arrive at Roberts's point beautifully, and see what he sees: "That human attention has become our principle currency." And that, in these times, forming long-term emotionally charged relationships with customers is the only way to make a product weather the long haul. And while Roberts speaks to us in a spirited, conversational manner (that makes Lovemarks a pleasure to read), the design of the book seems to work against him, as convoluted typography and a general lack of layout consistency give the book a visually amateurish look. --Christene Barberich

I believed if you were going through hell the only option was to keep going!" And that sentiment runs throughout his book, which weaves his personal history with his brand-making philosophy. While the layout is eye-catching, the text often reads like advertisement pull-outs: e.g. "the power of the edge is one of today’s most compelling ideas" and "to be out front can be lonely and uncomfortable, but remember, the lead husky gets the best view." In the end, it’s ad-folk who will glean most from this volume.

Very interesting to me but some might feel there are parts that are overthought. Ad agencies can sometimes get stuck in thinking details to death but Kevin reminds us finding emotion and connection is more important than stacks of research that can contradict and confuse.

Not worthy of the buzz.

The book is good but not great. It's not that I had any major disagreement with anything it says, it's just that there is really nothing new in this book, nothing that I have read or lived through a hundred times before. There weren't any "a-ha moments" or breakthrough insights. If you've never read any marketing or branding books before, then you'll probably benefit by reading this. If you're like me, and have read many, many marketing and branding books, you will learn nothing new. When you're the CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, your book is going to get published; if I had written this book and taken it to a publisher, they would have laughed at me and my incoherent writing style. Some of the concepts in this book, by the way, are also found in the old book "Raving Fans", which I think is more useful. On the positive side, some of the stories are compelling, and the photography and imaging are really interesting (I own the book, not the Kindle edition). Just don't think for a second that this book will turn you into a marketing or branding guru. It won't.

money can not buy you love...

Eve's Ransom is a short (125 pages) novel concerning the efforts of a young man to, in effect, buy the affection of a mysterious young woman. Actually, he really is just trying to help "a friend in need". But the young woman leads him on, accepts his money, and in the end ... well, you know how these things turn out.
Yes, the story is simple. However any material from George Gissing is an interesting read, especially for those interested in the more social aspects of Victorian society. Money and greed are also common themes, and Mr. Gissing makes keen observations in these areas that are true even today.
Eve's Ransom is a must read for George Gissing fans. For those who have not read any of George Gissing's novels I recommend first reading New Grub Street. It is unfortunate Eve's Ransom is no longer printed. No, it's not George Gissing's best novel. But it is still a worthy read.
Finally for those who like the "man falls in love with Ms. Wrong"-type of novels, especially those set in Victorian England, I recommend reading Basil by Wilkie Collins.

Gissing In Brief Form

This novella, at 125 pages, contains many of the trademark Gissing facets: introspective, thoughtful people struggling to balance very human impulses with a sense of social responsibility. The protagonist wants to be brusque about himself, giving short shrift to his more developed morality and admonishing himself for his all-too-mortal desires. Circumstances have been difficult in his life, and temptations and depression always flirt with him as he navigates through a career and singlehood. Amidst a small circle of friends he gets to know someone he thinks is his distaff equivalent, a woman who has faced struggles but keeps her head above water with pride. Each of the primary players faces choices that are difficult. The story does not push forward with an energetic plotline, but rather respresents a character study of young adults in romance and friendships. Not Gissing's strongest work, but a fine and rare selection for fans if they can locate a copy.

Good Book, if you can find the recording for each tune listed in the book.

I will make this short and sweet. This is a really good book and its composed by J.J.Johnson. If you can find the recording for every song listed it the book, you can really benefit from it. But even so, this book is challenging and important for all jazz trombone players, and it contains points you can use on your own improvisations. All in all, this is really helpful! Great buy!!!!

Where are these tunes?!

Good transcription book, but where are half of these tunes? They are difficult to look up and find so you can hear the ACTUAL solo that was transcribed. If you're going to make a transcription book, use tunes that EVERYONE knows or can at least find easily. The transcriptions were fine, but locating the tunes made it a terrible buy. Buy this book of solo transriptions if you have these tunes or can locate them easily.
