Thank you to Bhikku Bodhi for his tremendous effort. If you are a serious practitioner, especially a lone practitioner as I am, this book is invaluable for making available the undiluted teachings of the Buddha himself. Most of the books in my Buddhist library have been helpful to some extent or other but most are explanations of the teachings, i.e. the Buddha's words once-removed. I rank very highly What the Buddha Taught, by Walpola Rahula. This book is much more extensive. It is also more accessible than The Middle Length Discourses (trans. Bhiddhu Nanamoli and Bhiddhu Bodhi) because it is organized into general topics, such as "The Human Condition" and "Mastering the Mind." Highly recommended as a life reference.

As close as you can get to the Budda'a advice

It seems there are many books telling us how the Budda would date, eat, work...etc. These books may be helpful, but why not get as close to the original sources as possible? Unfortunately the Suttas (or sutras...the collected rememberances of the Buddas talks) can be overwhelming for many of us because of their vast number, the repetitive language, the obscure references, and they are not anthologized in a helpful way. In this book you have exerpts of the most foundational suttas. They are presented in chapters related by topic and each chapter has a wonderful introduction. The structure is oriented towards practice - ethical training, meditation, and wisdom. If you are looking for a book that is beyond a basic introduction and can be a touchstone for your own development - this could be a book you could work with for years to come. I can't recommend it highly enough

Buddha's Words With Clarity

I own many of the longer and complete translations of the Pali Canon available now and have spent years studying and teaching, to the best of my ability, the contents and character of each. What I find most useful about Bhikkhu Bohdi's anthology is it's concise and focused selection of Suttas and the logic of the overall outline, making it an extremely useful learning tool of the heart of Buddhism. Also, I took an extended trip recently and this was the only book of scripture I took along. It's physical size combined with the translations themselves and Bhikkhu Bodhi's erudite and clear commentary made this a wonderful traveling companion. If your Buddhist library can hold only one book, I highly recommend this volume.

The book lacks anything to do with real tactics, approaches, or strategies to begin or win a negotiation. Hilarious! A Debauched Gem

Laugh-out-loud funny stories combined with crisp, self-aware writing make this title a must-read. Dripping with testosterone, Paul's stories also exhibit a shameless honesty that is central to their charm. We've all heard night-out stories from that crazy friend, but Paul's writing and knack for storytelling sets this publication apart. Whether ending in success (sex) or failure (rejection), the stories never fail to entertain.

The Author Bears All

Sex Confessions, Debauchery, and How Men Think.... Where to even start. I was referred this book from a friend, for a good laugh and a little bit of inspiration. Given the content of this book, it's not my usual genre of choice, and I wasn't all too sure how I was going to feel about it when I first bought it. But much to my great surprise, once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It's an all too honest look at dating and pursuing girls from a young male's perspective. The author takes us through his hilarious pursuits, comedic blunders, and sometimes? smile inducing successes as he steps out to conquer the dating and hook-up scene in San Francisco.
Whatever this book may be, it's a great read that kept me unwillfully rooting for the author to find his victory. I laughed out loud a number of times, learned a few tips on confidence, flirting, openers, and approaching women, and often found myself relating very closely with these stories from some deep recess of my own journey.
Its written very well, has great flow, and most importantly is fun!

Definitely a Must-Buy.

Hilarious, simply hilarious. Paul's writing gives a vivid look into a young twenty-something's sexploits in the city. It reminds me of my younger days, right out of college.

I gave this book only 4 stars because it left me wanting more, but honestly at this price you can't complain. It was a perfect read for my weekly flight between LA and SF, but when I landed all I wanted to do was keep reading Paul's stories. I truly hope this is just the beginning for a witty and insightful writer like Paul.

Definitely a Must-Buy.

The gangly narrator of this earnest tale shares a birthday with Abraham Lincoln; moreover, the boy has big hands and feet and is "skinny as a beanpole/ and tall for my age." When his outsize features invite teasing from classmates, his kind, articulate teacher, Mrs. Giff, also draws on the boy's resemblance to the famous president: "Lincoln had big hands, too. Strong hands.... Strong enough to split rails for a fence, and wrestle two men at a time, and pull 36 states back together.... Big hands and a big heart." Lewin's (Peppe the Lamplighter) realistic watercolor portraits bring the youngster and his changing emotions into close focus, while rough background sketches render the former president. The juxtaposition of these elements simultaneously conveys the feel of two distinct eras and reinforces the parallels stressed in the text. Borden's (Good Luck, Mrs. K.!) use of body type to link the boy and his hero gives her inspirational story a fresh, child-geared slant, and her descriptions of Lincoln are often poetic and pertinent. Ages 4-8.

Grade 1-3-A young boy whose birthday falls on February 12th develops an interest in and an affinity for Abraham Lincoln. In poetic language, he notes the similarities between himself and his hero. Lincoln was tall for his age, skinny, and gawky, and so is he. If Lincoln could go on to greatness, then there is hope for him. Through the boy's reflections, readers will learn something about the nature of our 16th president. If at times the narrator's interest seems to border disquietingly on obsession, it does help see him through some teasing at school. Borden's text flows nicely, creating imagery of the physical presence of the man. Lewin's distinctive watercolors lend style and substance to the book, producing a treat for the eyes. A story that's likely to spark discussion about heroes and role models.

A boy who shares Abraham Lincoln's birthday muses on what Lincoln means to him. He's tall and skinny and has big hands and feet, just like A. Lincoln (he didn't like to be called Abe). ``Big buttons on his coat. Big words in his heart. Big hands and big feet like mine'' the boy notes as he passes a bronze statue of Lincoln while riding the school bus. When the boy's buddies call him ``Butterfingers'' and ``Butterfeet'' because he stumbles into wet paint, his teacher tells him that Lincoln was called names such as ``gorilla'' and ``baboon.'' Lewin's illustrations are the clear, realistically modeled watercolors readers have come to expect, placed over or against black-and-white drawings of Lincoln. These images of Lincoln at different points in his life make a powerful collage, which Lewin creates with fervor. There's nothing preachy about Borden's text, which makes the boy's connection to this historical figure immediate, honest, and straightforward. Not just for children

Every so often a gift is given to a parent when reading a book for children. The gift is that moment when the book being read becomes just as interesting, charming, funny or poignant to the parent as it is to the child. I received such a gift when I read this book. In short, simple, poetic sentences the author has managed to make vivid a great man who with the passing of years has become less human and more "historic." At the same time, the young boy in the story who discovers the likenesses between Lincoln and himself is poignantly real in his embarrassment with his awkward physical self. The dead president inspires the boy, and vice-versa: the boy opens a path for us to A. Lincoln. You can buy this book for your child, but you'll be buying yourself a treat as well.

Response to Disaster is written by Henry W. Fischer III who is a highly qualified subject matter expert in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management as the Founding Director of the Center for Disaster Research and Education at Millersville University in Pennsylvania.

Without spilling the contents of this book, this text is required reading in some college level courses in the field of EDM. I found the information presented within as very timely and very informative despite having been involved in large scale special events and major disasters since a very young age - younger than most and now spanning a couple or several decades. From my vast experiences in many different aspects of emergency and disaster response as well as special events, the media helps to not only shape the disaster response, if managed properly they can be instrumental to a great disaster response or conversely the media can make a much larger disaster out of the existing disaster if not managed adequately.

I highly recommend Response to Disaster by anyone who responds to major disasters or is involved in any aspect of Emergency or Disaster Management. Consider Response to Disaster as the Sociology of Disaster.

Loved this set of books!

I received Drawn for free and couldn't put it down. I had to buy the follow ups. I was on the fence regarding which story I would like to read and follow, Aaron or Damien, so I read both.
Obsession was Aaron's story. It was a good read and answered some questions but felt hollow. It was a nice book and showed how Aaron took care of Etta and Evie and they became a real family. It still felt like Etta was always wishing for Damien though. Maybe because I rooted more for him, I don't know. The ending made me cry and that's when I realized how much I wanted Etta and Damien to be the ones that made it.
Redemption was the story of Damien and Etta and Aaron. It was very similar at first to the Obsession story until it made a few minor changes in how Damien's prison scenes started. Aaron loved Etta but finally realized that her love for Damien would never die. I loved the story of Etta and Damien. I cried for them and cheered them on. The mental illness of Damien was dealt with in a comprehensive way without being preachy about it.
I thought the concept of writing the story with two different endings was a great way to complete this book! I liked the fact that you got to choose which path Etta chose. It was a novel concept, a refreshing way to read a book in this day and age. The sex scenes were great in Drawn and even better in Redemption! I would highly recommend this series to someone looking for a great romance with enough erotica and real life thrown in to make it believable.

Amazing storyline and writing.

I never leave reviews for books, even though I am a very avid reader (several kindle books a week). However, I HAD to leave one for this. I could NOT put it down. I got immersed in the characters and found myself feeling their feelings. I love the fact that there are two options for the ending, and I read them both. It is obvious, though, that the better story is Damien because it offers the happiest outcome for all involved. I cried reading Aaron's ending, and I felt satisfied in a sense, so much that I almost did not read Damien's ending... almost. And I am SO very glad that I did. It was amazing. I will now continue to read Evie's story.

The author's writing sucks you in to the story so well that when I was doing something other than reading it, I kept thinking what was happening next and I felt as if I would miss something. Excellent story written by a great author.

This is the book of the year for me!! How could there ever be a comparison for Aaron or Damien. I was team Damien from the beginning. We all make mistakes but we have to know what kind of a life we want. I could not see her with Aaron, she was never his to begin with. Aaron seem like such a push over, not a dominant gene in his body. No one wants a man like that. Damien a strong personality and an all around lover. Her soul ached for Damien and no one could have quenched that thirst. I could feel everything she needed with him and with Aaron I felt nothing. Her life would have been boring and not enough spice. I am glad that you took the time to do a redemption book because Damien leaving this earth and not knowing his childwas not an option for me.
