Best Prep Book for the OCA Exam

Just passed the OCA exam with 95% score this morning. I wanna say "Thank you" to Mala Gupta. You wrote a wonderful book, not just for the purpose of passing the exam (which it serves well), but also helped me understand the language, like the inheritance relation between classes and interfaces.

I am a Java newbie, coming from non-programmer background, with no previous Java knowledge. I learned Java from this book and the Oracle online tutorial. I took me two months to get ready. The book is very friendly to read, covering right the exam objectives, with no redundant or intimidating information. Exam tips, Twist & Tale. chapter exercise, and mock exam are all awesome. Especially when you finish reading and look back when taking practice exams, you'll see how all the confusing points were carefully explained in the chapters. I skimmed through another exam prep book before the exam, you can tell the difference.

If Mala is writing a book for IZO-804, I'll pre-order that one.

Don't forget to download the ebook that comes along with the hardcopy one. I lost my hardcopy book halfway and finished the other half via the PDF edition.

Excellent - Tailor made for the exam

The biggest strength of this book is that it has lot of sample code coupled with explanations, this helps in grasping the concept easily, I would say this book is not just handy for the exam but also to learn the subject.

Loved the way the book gives a problem statement and then provides solution of whether to use X or Y, that way one understands the concept fully & also easy to remember. Mapping a real world situation to object oriented language always helps & the author deserves credit for taking that extra effort to do so in this book. The analogy of baby being born with object creation was one such classic example, you are never going to forget that.

The pictorial representation also adds fun to the reading.In cases wherever required, the author has also made good attempt to print out the compiler output for certain conditions. The comprehensive explanations provided for simple topics like 'Working with Java data types' is a matter to appreciate

'Rules To Remember' section is something I liked about this book, readers can use it as a cheat sheet, same is the case for EXAM TIP

This is classic book for beginners and tailor made for the exam, but if you are experienced programmer you might feel skipping some pages along.

Quick notes at the end of each chapter along with set of sample questions with detailed explanations are very helpful.

Overall, this book covers the topic for the exam in a comprehensive, detailed way and is definitely a worth buy.

Great Book, Terrible Test

The book flows very well, is very readable, and seems to be giving great advice to those who plan to take this test.

The test itself seems to have too little to do with real-life coding. Creating Java software is (or should be, I think) about using the language at a high level to do concrete things, usually based on reusing custom-built components and objects, rather than interfacing with language primitives in unusual and tricky ways. The arcane, academic topics that the test seems to dwell on too often don't correlate to much that's useful. The language should IMO be used as a tool, not as a platform for devising tricky questions full of misdirection that are analogous to a sadistic version of brain teasers. I see why there is a market for certification, but wish that someone would devise a more reasonable exam and certification, that tests fundamental knowledge of the language.

The Last Gentleman: What it means to pass from death to life

Marooned in New York City, displaced Southerner Will Barrett finds himself utterly abstracted
from his world and himself. When a chance encounter in Central Park leads him to make the
acquaintance of the Vaughts, fellow Southerners who knew his father, Will embarks on a journey
that he hopes will tell him what he desperately needs to know. What does he need to know?
If Will knew the answer to that, he wouldn't need the Vaughts, or the South, or the haunted
memory of his father. Traversing the country, Will seeks the one man he believes will tell
him what to do. Percy not only weaves a lush character study of lost Will, but realizes
a profound meditation on the nature of identity, place, and home. Above all, like any
good picaresque novel, Will's journey is not so much about the end, but about what he discovers along the way. However, as a testament to
Percy's imagination and probity, Will's final destination provides nothing less than utter
revelation. I closed this book and jumped out of bed immediately, my breath coming in gulps
as I absorbed and processed what Walker Percy had taught me with such love, patience, beauty
and truth.

A characterization of the human condition

Deceptively meandering at first, slow to take root in the mind, Percy's 'The Last Gentleman' will reward persistent readers with an egrossing and entertaining characterization of the human condition. Will Barrett is the literary everyman who is never happy when things are pleasant, never satisfied at the feast, never more invigorated than when his contemporaries feel hopeless. And he doesn't have any idea why. A richly sympbolic telescope brings him into an encounter with a lovely young woman, a dying youth, a pornographic and incompetent doctor and a 'mean as hell' nun - all in the same family. While Barrett travels with this crew and ponders the unanswerable questions that continue to plague him, he becomes aware that the sick youth's 'salvation' may be 'up to' him. This is a skillful novel with elusive, eclectic characters surrounding a young protagonist whose only crime is an honest search for the truth, so that his life will take on some real meaning. The scene where Barrett converses with the nun while she feeds viscera to a bird of prey is particularly insightful and stimulating. A meaty, complex, thinking-person's novel.

Will Barrett, often bemused, confused, and having the uncanny ability to take on the characteristics of others to fit in as needed, seeks the meaning of life through his telescope (his powers of observation as well as a literal telescope), and a journey prompted by a girl he spys on in Central Park. While Will feels lost to himself, struggling with modern morality, the "new" South, and his family history, those he meets on his often humorous journey from New York back to the South, and finally, the new frontier of the West, often mistake him as the salvation to ease their own paths. Walker Percy is the master of fusing philosopy, religion, and an examination of the pitfalls in modern life with humor and storytelling.

I bought it for my English class of next semester. The price is cheaper compared with the one in book store even with the inthernational shipping fee and import fee. I received it after ordering for 8 days. Very fast shipping for the international order of Canada. The two books which were wrapped in a plastic bag along with a cardboard were packed in a box. Very good package! The books condition are as good as described. I will buy something else from amazon next time if I need other books. It was a very good experience. Thank you very much!

I never expected to get the actual manuscript, corrections,remarks and all, when I bought this book. It's a copy of the original manuscript, warts and all. It's really good reading. Gives a true insight as to what she had to actually go through to help get women the vote.

fascinating!

Absorbing contemporary account of the militant arm of the women's suffrage movement in Great Britain. This book reads easily and held my interest throughout. I had to look up some of the references to people and events but did not feel that detracted from my experience of reading this book. I found my sympathetic reaction to Mrs. Pankhurst's justifications for advocating property damage disturbing as I am normally opposed to violence as a means of political expression. I was relieved to read that the group took pains to avoid injuring people. I hope that is true although I am sure that unintended injuries must have resulted from some of their activities. Overall, I got to learn some history, a window into Mrs. Pankhurst's views, experiences and values and a sense of what it felt like to live in that time. I was also challenged to look at my own values. The Kindle edition that I read was free so the only cost to me was time: a very worthwhile investment.

When I bought "A Gracious Welcome," I was one of the "customers who also bought..." "Living with the Seasons" is a beautifully photographed book; a coffee table book, not a "how-to" book. The rooms, the furniture, the suggestions of cutting flowers from your own garden are truly lovely, but I have neither the rooms, the furniture, nor the cutting garden. The overall Asian decor is breathtakingly beautiful, but not really attainable. At least not by me. I have looked through the book many times for the sheer joy of it, but alas, I cannot use it as an example of what I can do with my home.

What a perfect colorful dust collector!

Are you looking for a book that always gets shuffled around and never read but have good intentions? How about a book is just heavy enough to flatten crinkled assignments when placed on top for a few hours? Then this magnificent waste of a tree and ink is the book for you! Look forward to the same old tips and tricks as every other test book and nursing blog site that exist. Also included for free; 40 or so questions that were also the same as the Davis Edge website Question Bank!
I can hardly contain my excitement because repeating the same questions is so much better in different formats!
Thought I was getting an inside scoop on how to understand these questions, instead i got duped. Bravo you misleading Amazon reviews, you got me. Good thing I opted to rent and can give this dust collector back.

Great test taking Strategies!!

This book has helped so much!! I'm now landing 80's on my exams! It teaches you how to look at what is important on test questions & how to ignore distracters! Teaches you how to get your anxiety under control. Easy to read & encouraging with quotes from successful individuals. I recommend it! Great test taking strategies!

Great Techniques To Know BEFORE Starting School

I ordered this because I read about it in nursing forums. I will be starting nursing school this Fall 2016 and this has helped tremendously. It breaks down the types of testing questions and gives hints on how to process it and choose the most correct answer. As well as ways to calm yourself on the day of the test and ways to prepare for test day. If you have test anxiety this will definitely help with calming your testing fears. I've read from several buyers of this book to read it before you start school and I definitely agree!

For the first time since she moved from mass market originals to hardcover (with 1996's Harvest), Gerritsen offers a sequel to last year's bestselling The Surgeon. It's a smart move, as in that novel this popular author introduced a terrific lead character, Jane Rizzoli, a female Boston homicide detective who rivals Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta for intensity and complexity. Her nemesis, serial killer Warren Hoyt, aka the Surgeon, whom Rizzoli sent to prison, returns here, too; that's not so terrific, as he's basically a Hannibal Lecter clone, though Gerritsen does pair him up this time with a second serial killer, known among cops as the Dominator. The discovery of the corpse of one of the Dominator's victims in a ritzy Boston suburb gets the action moving. Rizzoli notes connections between the Dominator's handiwork and that of Hoyt, and visits Hoyt behind bars. Eventually it's revealed that Hoyt and the Dominator have contacted one another by mail. Hoyt escapes and links up with the Dominator, and it's no surprise that Rizzoli is their number one target. The novel is suspenseful and stuffed with an encyclopedia's worth of tightly detailed forensic lore. Rizzoli gets a new love interest (Hoyt killed her last one, in The Surgeon), an FBI agent, which is handled with realism and subtlety, but her fuming at man's inhumanity to woman may grate on male readers. There are first-person italicized passages from Hoyt's point of view, a genre cliche, and at times the grisliness of the murders tends toward sensationalism. This strong thriller should sell very well, but it's not Gerritsen's best.

Rizzoli and Isles: Together again!

'The Apprentice', by Tess Gerritsen, is the second of the Rizzoli and Isles series. When Rizzoli finally puts Warren Hoyt, otherwise known as The Surgeon, in prison for life, she thought that she was through with him. Just like 'The Surgeon', which was first of this series, 'The Apprentice' is a real page turner.

Detective Rizzoli gets called into a string of murders because the MO is the same as her old nemesis, Warren Hoyt. Hoyt, the man of her nightmares.
Hoyt. The man who pinned her to the floor with a scapel in both of her hands. Hoyt. The devil incarnate.

Even from his prison cell, it seems as though he was still killing. A copycat? Doubtful. Jane Rizzoli believed that Hoyt had somehow engineered these murders. Every detail was there, from the teacup on the husband's knee to the folded nightgown in the bedroom. It was Hoyt all over. Jane gets the courage up to face Hoyt in prison. She is looking for some answers to questions that would help her solve these murders. Hoyt, who is obsessed with Jane, was pleased that she had come to him, but was no help, of course. Maura Isles, the Medical Examiner, helps to keep her best friend, Jane, on an even keel, working tirelessly to find this maniacal killer. Every murder that Jane worked in the case, brings more memories of Hoyt to her mind.

We see the world through Rizzoli's eyes and feel the hate that she has for the one man that she cannot get out of her life, Hoyt. Ms. Gerritsen has done it again. I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Apprentice' and gave it 5 stars. I am looking forward to more of Rizzoli and Isles books.

Excellent story

I did not like Jane Rizzoli at first, in the first book The Surgeon. But the character intrigued me enough to read this second book and at least now I understand the character better. These two books have been a wild ride, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

This is not a TV Rizzoli. The book is much darker, and violent. Enjoyed the mystery very much. Makes me want to read more of Gerritson's work.
